Duo who sold WhatsApp accounts to scammers nabbed; over 6,800 SIM cards, 15 phones seized

Two suspects arrested for selling WhatsApp accounts to scammers, leading to the seizure of numerous SIM cards and phones.

SINGAPORE – A 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested between November 13 and 14 for allegedly selling WhatsApp accounts to scammers. The suspects are believed to be part of a syndicate that used both local and foreign SIM cards to create and sell WhatsApp accounts to overseas scam syndicates. These scammers then used the accounts to target Singapore residents with investment fraud schemes.

During the operation, police officers seized over 6,800 SIM cards, 15 mobile phones, two laptops, more than $10,000 in cash, and cryptocurrency e-wallets containing over 59,000 USDT (approximately S$79,500).

The duo will face charges for abetment by conspiracy to commit cheating. If convicted, they could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine.
