Humanity Matters Supports Gaza with Essential Supplies Amid Conflict
Humanity Matters, a Singapore-based non-profit organization, has sent over 50 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Gaza since the escalation of the Hamas-Israel conflict in October 2023. The organization’s efforts, which involve more than 1,000 volunteers from Singapore, have raised significant funds and gathered essential supplies for those suffering in Gaza, where ongoing violence has left many in dire need of food, healthcare, and basic necessities.
As of November 2024, Humanity Matters has raised at least $679,000 and collected over $120,000 worth of healthcare supplies, as well as 41 tonnes of food and nutritional items. These supplies were carefully delivered to Gaza under tight coordination over the past 400 days of escalating conflict. To further support the relief mission, the group launched the “Street Collection For Gaza Relief” initiative on November 17, 2024. Volunteers from Singapore and migrant communities raised around $30,500 by collecting donations from the public. The funds and supplies collected are set to be shipped to Jordan and transferred to Gaza by land in January 2025.
The humanitarian group’s operations were boosted by the recent opening of the Israeli-controlled Kissufim crossing, allowing more aid to enter Gaza, which has been facing severe shortages due to the ongoing conflict. The war has caused significant loss of life, with more than 43,000 killed and close to two million civilians displaced.
Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Defence and Manpower, Zaqy Mohamad, who joined volunteers on November 17, emphasized the importance of collective action and compassion. Despite the complex and ongoing geopolitical tensions, he stated that Singaporeans have the ability to contribute constructively through humanitarian efforts like these.
Humanity Matters has already conducted multiple relief deployments to Jordan and Egypt, with continued efforts to provide aid to Gaza, ensuring that the supplies reach those in need.
