We Love Learning (WeLL) Centre to Relocate After Nearly Two Decades of Service
For nearly two decades, the We Love Learning (WeLL) Centre at Block 93 Henderson Road has been a vital space for the residents of Henderson Heights, offering a variety of community services from educational support to food distribution. Originally a storytelling club for children in 2003, the centre has grown into a multifaceted hub, providing free tuition, groceries, second-hand electronics, and other forms of assistance to low-income families.
However, due to upcoming redevelopment plans, the residents of the estate, including those living in Blocks 91, 92, and 93, are being relocated, and the WeLL Centre will have to vacate its current location by the end of September 2025. The centre is scheduled to move to a new location at Block 129 Bukit Merah View by May 2025.
The centre’s long-standing impact is evident through the heartfelt stories of its residents. Ms. Diyana Abdullah, a single mother, shared how the centre’s support helped her children succeed academically. The centre provided free tuition for her children, including her eldest daughter, who went on to graduate with a diploma in health management. Similarly, other residents, like Ms. Murni Indrayani and Mr. Loo Kok Hua, spoke about the invaluable help they received, from parenting advice to tuition assistance for their children.
The centre’s volunteers have also played a crucial role, helping families with moving arrangements and providing second-hand goods when needed. Mr. Soh Chee Keong, honorary chairman of the Henderson-Dawson Citizens’ Consultative Committee, emphasized the importance of community partnerships in ensuring the centre’s sustainability and success over the years.
As the relocation draws near, many residents are nostalgic about the community spirit fostered by the centre. They will miss the sense of belonging and the support it offered during difficult times. The centre’s closure marks the end of an era for Henderson Heights, but its legacy of service will continue in the new neighbourhood.
