Liquor Retailers in Little India Investigated for Rule Violations

Nineteen outlets face scrutiny over breaches of liquor control regulations.

Nineteen liquor retail outlets in Singapore’s Little India are under investigation for breaching regulations related to the sale and consumption of alcohol. These actions followed enforcement operations conducted by the Central Police Division between 20 and 30 October.

Violations and Zones
Little India is a designated Liquor Control Zone with strict trading hours:

Monday to Friday: 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays (including eves): 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The affected outlets, located across areas like Norris Road, Cuff Road, and Dunlop Street, face allegations such as:

Supplying alcohol without a valid liquor license.
Exceeding trading hours.
Setting up unauthorized areas for alcohol consumption.
Penalties
Licensees found guilty of breaching trading hours face fines of up to $10,000. Supplying liquor without a valid license carries a fine of up to $20,000. Repeat offenders risk both fines and imprisonment of up to three months.

Enforcement Goals
The police statement emphasized the importance of compliance with liquor control laws to maintain public order in high-traffic areas like Little India.
