SFA imposes fines and strict measures after repeated hygiene violations at the eatery.
SINGAPORE – The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has suspended Akbar 24 Hours Restaurant in Tanjong Pagar for four weeks following repeated findings of cockroach infestations. The suspension began on November 12 and will last until December 9.
Located at 2 Lim Teck Kim Road, the Indian Muslim eatery also received an $800 fine after accumulating 12 demerit points within a 12-month period. According to SFA guidelines, establishments exceeding 12 demerit points may face a two- or four-week suspension or even licence cancellation.
Hygiene Compliance and Re-certification
As part of the reinstatement process, the eatery’s food handlers and hygiene officer must undergo re-certification to ensure compliance with food safety standards before resuming operations.
Previous Offences
This is not the first time Akbar 24 Hours Restaurant has faced penalties for hygiene violations. In 2023, the establishment was suspended for two weeks and fined $1,000 after accumulating 14 demerit points for failing to maintain cleanliness and not registering an employee.
Public Reception
Despite the infractions, the eatery has a 3.8 rating on Google from 580 reviews, indicating mixed public sentiment.
