SFA Issues Warning Over Health Risks of Candy from Germany
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has issued a warning about a product called Tiger Candy, which originates from Germany and claims to enhance sexual performance in men. The candy has been found to contain Tadalafil, a potent prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, which should only be taken under medical supervision.
Tadalafil, an active ingredient in many erectile dysfunction medications, can cause serious side effects when consumed inappropriately. These risks include heart attacks, strokes, migraines, irregular heart rates, and priapism—a painful and prolonged erection of the penis. The drug is especially dangerous for individuals with pre-existing heart conditions, as it can cause life-threatening drops in blood pressure, particularly in those on medications containing nitrates.
Despite these dangers, the candy was marketed on various local e-commerce platforms. In response, the SFA collaborated with the platforms to remove the listings and has warned sellers to immediately cease selling the product.
Consumers who have purchased or consumed Tiger Candy are advised to seek medical attention if they have any concerns regarding their health. The SFA also urged the public to be cautious when purchasing food products from unknown or unreliable sources and to gather sufficient information before making any purchases.
Selling or supplying unsafe food products that contain potent or banned substances like Tadalafil can result in serious legal consequences. Offenders can face fines of up to $5,000, while repeat offenders could be fined up to $10,000, jailed for up to three months, or both.
The SFA has encouraged the public to report any instances of unsafe food sales to their feedback portal, ensuring better protection for consumers against health risks associated with illegal and dangerous products.
Consumers are urged to stay vigilant when purchasing food items online and to consult with healthcare professionals if they suspect they have consumed any unsafe products.
