On Christmas Day, a taxi in Midtown Manhattan, New York, jumped the sidewalk and struck pedestrians outside Macy’s flagship store, injuring seven people. The incident occurred in Herald Square, a popular area with holiday shoppers, near the corner of West 34th Street and Avenue of the Americas.
The 58-year-old taxi driver, who suffered a medical episode, lost control of the vehicle, which then veered onto the sidewalk. Among the injured were a nine-year-old boy, two women aged 49, and three other women aged 19, 37, and 41. The nine-year-old boy and his mother, who were visiting from Australia, were among the most seriously injured.
