196 Organisations, Individuals Lauded for Doing Good at ComChest Awards

The ComChest Awards recognize outstanding contributors to social services and philanthropy in Singapore.

Singapore – A total of 196 organisations and individuals were celebrated at the Community Chest (ComChest) Awards for their ongoing contributions to donation, volunteering, and inclusive hiring. These efforts have supported over 200 social services and helped 93,000 individuals in need, including children with special needs, at-risk youth, adults with disabilities, and families and seniors requiring assistance.

One of the honorees, Madam Lim Kim Lan, began donating to ComChest in 1984. Starting with a small portion of her salary, she has continued to give consistently, believing that even modest contributions can add up to create significant impact. As a long-time donor, she is committed to instilling the values of charity in her children, making sure they understand the importance of giving back.

The award ceremony, attended by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and other dignitaries, recognized organisations such as SP Group, which received the prestigious Pinnacle Award for its extensive philanthropic efforts. SP Group has partnered with ComChest since 2005, contributing through various initiatives, including the Heartware Fund, which raises funds for vulnerable groups in Singapore. Additionally, the company fosters inclusivity by offering internship and employment opportunities for individuals with special needs through its partnership with Trampolene.

SP Group’s involvement goes beyond donations; they also focus on creating inclusive workplaces for people with disabilities, helping them understand how to make environments more welcoming. In recognition of their commitment, SP Group also received the Charity Platinum, Enabler, and Volunteer Partner awards. Their contributions include close to $5 million in philanthropic support and significant volunteer outreach.

Another standout recipient, Sun Life Singapore, was recognized as a Pioneer Partner of Change for its support of ComChest’s Change for Charity initiative. The insurance company donates 0.5% of premiums from its SunBrilliance Indexed Universal Life plan, demonstrating its commitment to giving back to the community.

ComChest Chairman Chew Sutat emphasized the growing complexity of social needs and the importance of sustainable philanthropy. He stressed the need for ongoing partnerships and holistic approaches to charity, including donations, volunteering, and the provision of resources and networks to ensure that the social service sector is well-equipped to meet both current and future challenges.
