A teenager has been arrested after being linked to loan shark harassment incidents in residential areas in Yishun and Bedok.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested on November 22, 2024, for his suspected role in two separate loan shark harassment cases that occurred in residential areas of Yishun and Bedok. According to a statement by the Singapore Police Force, the first case took place on November 20 at Yishun Street 22, while the second incident occurred on November 21 at Chai Chee Road in Bedok.
Both harassment incidents involved the same disturbing tactics: red paint was splashed on the main doors and gates of the affected residential units. In addition to the paint, graffiti was found sprayed on the walls next to a unit in Yishun and on the floor in front of a unit in Bedok. These acts are common methods used by loan sharks to intimidate and threaten debtors, signaling to them that their loan repayment is overdue or that they are being targeted by the illegal lenders.
The young teenager, who has not been named, is believed to be part of a larger group engaged in such criminal activities.
